DAP Questions BN Posters, Banners On Government Buildings | Pilihanraya Kecil N29 Batang Ai

LUBOK ANTU, April 1 (Bernama) -- The hanging of posters of federal and state leaders on government buildings, including schools, is against the Election Law, said State DAP chairman Richard Wong Ho Leng.

He questioned why the hanging of posters of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, his deputy, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and other state political party leaders on such buildings was allowed.

Not only were the posters of the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Batang Ai by-election, Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, but that of its leaders at both federal and state levels were also freely hung at a number of government buildings including schools, he said.

"I wonder why are they allowed with such impunity in such neutral places," he told Bernama, here today.

He said this was again an infringement of the Election Law which clearly stated that only the posters of candidates from the contesting parties were allowed, and not anybody else.

Wong, a lawyer, cautioned that this could be used as a ground to nulify the election result.

He hoped the police here would act without fear of favour, although the posters were those of the country's and state's top leaders.

The Batang Ai by-election on April 7 is between Mussen and PKR's Jawah Gerang.

The seat fell vacant following the death on Feb 24 of Datuk Dublin Unting, BN's three-term assemblyman for the seat.
